US Secretary of State Says Gaza War Continues as Israel and Hamas Ready for Talks

America's top diplomat stated on Sunday that the war in Gaza continues, although both Israel and Hamas agreeing to aspects of a proposed peace plan aimed at ending the long-running war.

Technical Talks to Show Militant Group's Commitment

"It will become clear soon whether Hamas is committed or not by how these technical talks proceed regarding the hostage liberation," he told during an interview.

The remarks came as declarations that the militants risk "total destruction" if it attempts to remain in control in Gaza. Delegations from both sides are preparing for discussions in Egypt on Monday, but intermediaries are encountering obstacles, including the process of prisoner exchanges that may hinder hopes for a rapid cessation of hostilities.

Two-Part Strategy to Resolution Framework

In a separate interview, the secretary outlined that external discussions are "the most progress made to securing all captives' freedom".

But he warned that the administration's peace plan – which both sides have agreed to including various challenges, like the demilitarization of the group – was likely subject to "numerous difficulties along the way."

He stated he "would encourage everyone" to view the process in two parts – initially Hamas has accepted to the hostage liberation structure, prisoners are let go and troops retreat.

Logistical Challenges and Timeline Concerns

Yet the operational details are not definite, like the swap procedure and receiving parties. "We expect that occur rapidly," he stated. "The hostage piece needs to proceed with great speed."

"I do have hope that they will be freed. And in my view opportunities exist," he added.

As outlined in the agreement, militants would let go the last captives – about 20 of them thought to be living – within three days. In return, the military would cease its offensive and retreat from much of the territory, free numerous inmates and permit delivery of relief supplies and subsequent recovery.

Organization's Viewpoint

"Militants are enthusiastic to reach an agreement to stop the conflict and immediately begin the captive transfer following the field conditions," an informed source reported.

Yet they noted that "the military cannot block the application of the peace plan. If the military has authentic willingness to secure a deal, Hamas is ready."

Subsequent Obstacles

In his comments on Sunday, the secretary explained the second phase of the plan will involve talks about the situation following withdrawal occurs and how a new governance structure for the territory would be formed.

"That component that I think is will prove a little tougher to address, but that's what's going to provide a lasting the resolution of fighting," he stated.

Furthermore, he revealed that "everyone has agreed, with Israeli agreement, that ultimately, in due course during these developments, the region will be led by a Palestinian technocratic group separate from the militant group, that are not terrorists, guided and helped of an multinational group like the board of peace."
