Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they cannot be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Frank.
Tottenham let in two scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth Premier League at home loss of the year.
But the main topic of discussion was Fulham's second score when Vicario gave away possession well beyond his box.
He came out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.
However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a strike into the net from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham supporters booed him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing episodes really angered Frank.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently booed the situation and jeered following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Dane commented about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are with each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a early lead before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.
Ex- Premier League keeper Hart stated that the second score was "totally preventable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part Vicario is performing. He is a great team player, he is a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game
Italian international Vicario is in his third season with Spurs.
He said following the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"That goal was a error of my own, I take accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."
He said being booed "is part of the game".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain increasingly composed, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to reverse results. This match is a bad defeat and it is hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' 43.3 metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally also came on Saturday.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty net to aim for.
10 moments passed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was 5 moments after the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of extra time. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the correct contact and get it on target. I had a positive sense, the moment it came off my boot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank
Although the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad performance for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.
This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint club statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
The side still have home games against the manager's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to play before the close of the year.
Just a single of those wins have occurred after Frank replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're down 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you too – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have suffered another game. Every game has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.
And they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two shots on target per game in the division – their poorest rates on record in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He must take the criticism," the pundit said. "He's accepted a prestigious role at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
