The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles in the latest Hunger Games series movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
An Important Return to Panem
The actors will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This signifies the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several notable actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming concluded in November of the same year.
- The eagerly awaited film is slated for November 2026 theatrical debut.
