An IT issue at the airport's air traffic control meant no planes could arrive or depart from the facility.

Flight operations have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted because of an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, considerable delays are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

Officials had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the latest information on their booked journeys," the statement added.
