McKenna's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to Celtic as "a really big football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born ex- Northern Ireland young player said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I possess a unique job here at a remarkable team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Anything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Agreement Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think all people has to go around and declare what they were, but of course it's a really big football club."

The coach agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Town's coach forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy represented Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Welsh forward is minded to finish the ongoing World Cup campaign, a position that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, should they fail to end up Group J runners-up.

Considering his present position, Bellamy, whose agreement concludes after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
