Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
