Ex- NFL Player Antonio Brown Enters Innocent Plea in Murder Attempt Charges
Ex- NFL star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an murder attempt accusation stemming from a shooting that occurred in May, as his attorney entering a innocent plea on his behalf.
Correctional records in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his relocation to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the National Football League, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has already submitted a written not guilty plea to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami court as early as Wednesday morning for a release proceeding, Eiglarsh added.
Based on his apprehension order, Brown is charged of grabbing a pistol from a safety staffer after a star boxing contest in May and discharging a couple of rounds at a man he had clashed with previously. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that one of the bullets scraped his nape.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was merely safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was compelled to take were exclusively in self-protection against the reported individual’s hostile behavior. Brown was attacked that night and responded within his lawful right to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not right away arrested because originally police did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It wasn’t until later in May that Nantambu provided a full statement about the event to police and identified Brown as the shooter, the affidavit says.
Based on his online posts, Brown had been residing in Dubai for a number of weeks. In a message after the confrontation, Brown said he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by several individuals who sought to steal my jewelry and cause bodily injury to me.”
A level two attempted murder charge in the state of Florida imposes a maximum fifteen-year incarceration term and up to a $10,000 fine in the case of a finding.
Brown has faced multiple judicial challenges over the time. He earlier had been charged of battery of a truck operator, various domestic violence allegations, failure to pay child support and further occurrences.
